"The Curiosity Shop"2005

Mixed media, 12 1/2 x 28 x 12 feet. Installation view: Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York. Private Collection, New York and Amsterdam . Courtesy Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York.
"I’m always acquiring massive amounts of material, not knowing whether I’ll use it or not. Sometimes those things stay in the barn and sometimes they enter into my everyday life. Sometimes they become part of a sculpture, an installation. For me, what this is really about is stuff. That’s why I like museums and why I’m inspired by places like that. I identify with the mission of the museum where you go to gain knowledge through things. And I think that mission is very close to what sculpture and installation are about and, for me, what contemporary art is about."- Mark Dion
